Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of any community project.

That’s why we need your help to grow our organization and build a vibrant, successful downtown. As a Forward High Point volunteer, you’ll act as an official representative to the public during our sponsored events and activities.

If you are interested in volunteering, please support us today by emailing us at downtownhighpoint.info@gmail.com

Once you do, our Office Manager will contact you to get you started.

Thank you for taking this first step and making a difference in our downtown!

Committees

FORWARD HIGH POINT currently has Five (5) active and working Committees. These committees are delegated with the following goals and objectives:

MARKETING COMMITTEE - (which is composed of three subcommittees, Promotions & Special Events, Image & Branding, and Social Media as highlighted below):

Subcommittee #1 - PROMOTIONS & SPECIAL EVENTS: This sub-committee will be tasked with developing ideas for, organization and implementation of both small and large promotional activities, events, concerts and festivals in the downtown area.   Examples include, but are not limited to; Rock the Point Concert Series, Interactive Art Display,  Art Market, Party in the Plaza, Coltrane Kick of Party, Movie Nights, Halloween Carnival, Christmas Carnival, Hoops in the Street, etc.).

THIS COMMITTEE MEETS THE SECOND WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 11:00 AM*

Subcommittee #2 - IMAGE & BRANDING: This sub-committee will look at our current Image (Locally and regionally), discussing both the positive and negative and or dated.  Develop ideas on how to improve and change mis-conceptions.   They will also take a look at how our downtown is divided.  Are there specific "Districts" and what are they and where are they.  How do we either enhance this "Brand" or develop a "Brand".  What are the implementation steps and what are the cost.

THIS COMMITTEE MEETS THE THIRD THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 4:00 PM*

Subcommittee #3 - SOCIAL MEDIA: Forward High Point has just put up a New Web Site -  www.downtownhighpoint.org . This new platform will allow us to greatly expand how we market downtown, its businesses and ourselves.  We also currently have some placement on Facebook and Instagram, but none of these have reached their potential.   How do we make all of our outlets popular for finding and distribution of information and to make downtown Fun and Exciting.  What additional content can we add?  How can we be interactive?   What stories can we share?  These will be the challenges given to this sub-committee.

THIS COMMITTEE MEETS THE SECOND TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 4:00 PM*

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE: This committee will deal with the physical environment of downtown.  How it functions and what it looks like.  Where are problem areas and how do we improve them.  The issues that this committee will look at will be both short term and long term.  They likely will require coordination with the City of High Point.   Initial issues that are likely to be discussed include:   Parking,  One-Way Streets,  Street scapes,  Safety and Security, Urban Art, Signage, Facades, etc.

THIS COMMITTEE MEETS THE FIRST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 4:00 PM*

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: At it core, Forward High Point was set up as an Economic Development Organization with a specific focus on downtown. As such, we have spent our first several years focused on the "Catalyst Project", as well as started some other major  Real Estate Development projects around downtown.  While it is now time for us to expand that focus in wholistic world of downtown development, which is the reasons for the start up of the above committees, we need to see our current projects through to completion, as well as expand our efforts beyond our own property interest.  So this committee  will look to facilitate the renovation/revitalization of the 101 N. Main Site (Showplace West Building), as well as the 700 N. Main Street Block (Main Street Station).  The committee will also look to see how else FHP can help in the recruitment of new businesses, office uses and residential living in the downtown.  The committee will seek to identify the opportunities and potential that exist, uncover the obstacles to new investment, seek ideas and solutions to overcome those issues and other gaps and implement programs where appropriate.

THIS COMMITTEE MEETS THE SECOND THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 4:00 PM*

CAPITAL DRIVE COMMITTEE: There is so much that Forward High Points wants to do and needs to do, but unfortunately we have a very limited budget.   Our public funds allocations only cover our current operational overhead (and that is lacking in staffing size).  If we are going to implement any of the programs and projects that are within our Work Plan or those initiated by the  new committees, we will need to raise funds from the private side.   No one likes to ask for money, but until we have a stable source of significantly more funding, FHP will be forced to raise funds.  This will likely need to take a multi-level approach.  Small donations through "Memberships", Larger donations through direct "Asks" and maybe one or more fundraising events.   This committee will both prepare a fundraising plan and then with the help of the entire organization, to implement that plan.

At this time, this committee does not have scheduled meetings planned.  Please check back to this webpage to see when that get's updated!
