World famous comedian Rob Schneider made his way to downtown High Point on Saturday Nov. 21 for a night filled with laughs, good food and socially distanced fun at Truist Point.
Schneider, who has starred in numerous hit movies such as The Benchwarmers and Grown Ups, was lucky enough to be a part of the first comedy event held at the High Point Rocker’s stadium.
When the show began, it was a clear evening and temperatures were in the low 60’s, great for an outdoor event in late November. Schneider delivered his entertaining and calculated jokes from a stage in front of the pitchers mound. VIP ticket holders sat at distanced tables in the infield while general admission attendees sat socially distanced in the stands.
Viewers enjoyed food and drinks under the stars at the ballpark, as shared laughs witnessing stand up acts from both Schneider and his opener Jamie Lissow, the producer of Schneider’s television show.
This event proves the quality and versatility of a wonderful venue that downtown High Point has in Truist Point. “It shows that it’s not just a ballpark for baseball,” says Pete Fisch, president of the High Point Rockers. “It’s a ballpark for many other things and a comedy show is a great example of that.”
Even with tight capacity limits and social distancing protocols, the Rocker’s stadium has the capability of hosting fun and safe events in the midst of COVID-19. “It was well received by folks,” says Fisch. “It just shows that we can do diverse events at the ballpark other than baseball, even in times such as this when we have a global pandemic going on.”
Whether it’s a baseball game or comedy show, the Truist Point Stadium is unique to downtown High Point in the many ways in which it can provide entertainment for the local community.
